Over the weekend, we explored the exciting features of the brand new Polestar 4, a remarkable addition to the electric vehicle market. While Polestar is known for its sleek Swedish designs and commitment to sustainability, the Polestar 4 elevates the brand with its innovative offerings. The model sits in between the existing Polestar 2 and the recently launched Polestar 3. During our 48 hour test drive we drove the Single Motor variant.
The vehicle immediately captures attention with its bold, sporty design and chunky yet sleek on road presence. It effectively combines elements of both a coupe and an SUV, creating an eye-catching silhouette. Filled with features like the latest Pixel LED headlights with adaptive high beams, that classic Google Assistant that anyone familiar to the brand has come to love, 5G internet, a state of the art high resolution 2 way rear view mirror (we will talk about that later) or the adjustable steering feedback, there are so many reasons to love this car once you get into the detail and experience what it’s like to sit behind the wheel.
Upon entering the cabin, you are welcomed by a minimalist yet sophisticated interior. Genuinely high-quality materials and a user-friendly layout contribute to an inviting atmosphere. Immediately upon taking a seat, the standout feature is the impressive 15.4 -inch touchscreen infotainment system, which integrates seamlessly with Android & Apple, allowing access to navigation, music, and various apps. As fun as this is to drive… and don’t worry, we will come onto that, the best way to really experience the Polestar 4 and the thought-provoking interior is at night. Opening the doors you will see that classic badge symbolising so much more than just a vehicle projected onto the floor and once the door closes, you have the option of being immersed into, well quite simply a solar system-inspired illumination (i hear you read that with confusion), it is literally what it sounds like and you have the option to choose the mood of the entire interior cabin based on the hue of each planet which ties in perfectly to the brand name origin. You can see more about what I mean here.
On the road, the Polestar 4 delivers an exhilarating driving experience. Whether navigating central London where most of my driving experience was or travelling on a long distance journey up north, the vehicle has an impressive maximum WLTP range of 385 miles (this may vary based on model variants). The vehicle’s acceleration is both responsive and engaging, allowing you to remain connected to the road on which you drive yet providing you with smooth and elegant road feedback. Additionally, the regenerative braking feature enhances energy efficiency, making each drive eco-friendly and extending your journey when compared with its competitors.
Anybody that knows Polestar will know that their commitment to safety is paramount, and the Polestar 4 is equipped with the latest advanced safety technology including features such as 12 ultrasonic sensors around the vehicle, strategically positioned driver monitoring system that ensures alertness from the driver, Pilot assist, lane-keeping assist, and a 360-degree camera system to name just a few provide reassurance, ensuring a secure and stress-free driving experience.
Another significant advantage of the Polestar 4 is its impressive range. As mentioned earlier, with up to 385 miles of range on a single charge, drivers can confidently embark on longer journeys without frequent stops for recharging. When it is time to recharge, the fast-charging capability allowing you to charge up to 200 kW on a rapid DC charger allows for a swift return to the road. You can expect to spend 30 minutes on this charger taking you from 10% to 80% which is extremely impressive.
As mentioned previously, the Polestar 4 also incorporates bespoke ambient lighting, allowing drivers to create a personal atmosphere within the vehicle. Whether your mood best suits a calming ambience inspired by Saturn or a vibrant energy matching earths vibrant colours, the interior can easily adapt to fit the journey. You will see extended star knit illuminated deco which replaces the boring wood or metal panels in competitor vehicles which only enhances the elegance and warmth of the interior cabin. With premium sound output from 12 speakers and the upgrade option of a Harmon Kardon premium sound system, it is guaranteed that entertainment will be so immersive, you may forget you have arrived at your destination.
In summary, the Polestar 4 represents a significant advancement in the electric vehicle landscape. With its stylish design, cutting-edge technology, and engaging performance, it appeals to a diverse range of drivers. Whether you are an advocate for sustainable vehicles for nipping to the shops, looking for a stylish way to take the family on a trip and keep the kids entertained with the electrochromic glass sunroof (available as an upgrade) or simply seeking a dynamic driving experience, the Polestar 4 is a compelling choice.
